*RED-EARED SLIDERS*-Please
keep in mind that due to the
extremely high volume of unwanted
red-eared sliders, we may not
always be able to take them into
our care. Our advice to all new turtle
hobbyists is to do definitive
research on any species you are
considering keeping BEFORE you
make a purchase. Red-eared
sliders are BIG turtles. They need a
very large swimming area and do
best in outdoor ponds/water
gardens. Inside, they prove to be
problematic once they go from a
tiny, cute, quarter sized baby to a
fully grown 8 to 11" monster adult.
They are messy eaters, very
aggressive and water changes
must be very frequent. Thanks to
places like China Town in NYC and
other irresponsible dealers who fail
to inform their costumers of the
reality behind these large turtles,
many of them end up dead or are
released into natural ponds outside
of their native range. In return,
native populations, usually those in
decline, suffer greatly, or are
completely wiped out.
